NineSigma, representing Vale Base Metals , invites participants to submit proposals for the Pyrrhotite Innovation Challenge: Sustainable Resource Recovery.
The Open Innovation Challenge will facilitate Vale Base Metals capabilities to leverage new, state-of-the-art technologies into their mining & metals operations to build a cleaner, greener, more prosperous world.
What is the Challenge?
Vale Base Metals is looking for innovative solutions to unlock sustainable and financially viable solutions to recover the valuable metals and minerals contained in pyrrhotite.

Vale Base Metals is committed to effectively addressing the pyrrhotite opportunity in new ways that reduce the carbon footprint and enable sustainable and economically favourable processing. Vale Base Metals is seeking to address known challenges to not only align with its commitment to sustainability but also propel the mining industry towards circular practices, where waste can be transformed into valuable resources.
How Do I Participate?
All entries must be submitted online by May 31st 2024 at 5PM Canadian Eastern Daylight Time through the "Respond" button at the end of this page. Along with the main entry, supporting documents may be submitted as well.
Anyone can submit proposals, individually or by team, including academics, private research & development, startups, private or public institutes, small or large companies, entrepreneurs, inventors, etc.
To participate you have to:

• Create an account on the online platform
• Click on the “Respond” button on this page;
• Apply using the Response form provided online (pdf and editable versions of the Response Form are available for download under "Resources and FAQs").

Award
Up to three innovation laureates may be awarded with Vale Base Metals’ scientific award of $25,000 CAD, each, by September 30th, 2024. Moreover, Vale Base Metals would like to support collaborations with one or more of the innovation laureates to develop the selected proposal(s), with the aim to transform them into market-tailored technologies.
