RFP Title

Development / Production Partner of Thermosetting Polymer with Ultra-Low Dielectric Loss
RFP Description

NineSigma, representing a global chemical company, seeks a partner to develop and/or produce thermosetting polymer with ultra-low dielectric loss. Anticipated respondents are not only contract manufacturers of the target polymer but also any kinds of organizations capable of developing the target polymer toward mass-production.

Key Success Criteria

Requirements

Respondents should be able to develop and manufacture the polymer with the following properties:

  • Relative permittivity Dk: 3.2 or less (10 GHz)
  • Dissipation factor Df: 0.004 or less (10 GHz)
  • Should be epoxy or phenol-based thermosetting polymer
    • Glass transition point: 180ºC or higher
  • Should have reactive Unsaturated group through reaction of *Some substance and Thermoset resin such as Phenol resin which has -OH group
    • *Some substance is composed of Unsaturated group (double bond or triple bond) such as acrylic anhydride, methacryloyl chloride, benzoyl chloride, cyanogen bromide.
  • Annual production scale: 300 Ton or higher

Production capacity, if not meeting the above requirement, could be leveraged by the client of this request.

Anticipated Partner

  • Companies having experiences mass-producing the target polymers or a-like
  • Companies having no experience but will and capability in mass-producing the target polymers
  • Companies, research institutes or universities having expertise in developing and/or producing the target polymer up to a certain scale together with the client of this request.

Background

Toward the era of 10s to 100s of Giga Hertz wireless communication such as the 5th Generation mobile communication system, every possible effort to reduce the transmission loss is required. In this context, materials with much lower dissipation factor and much lower dielectric constant are desired for electronic components or devices for the future wireless communication system.

NineSigma’s client, a global chemical company, has been making efforts to develop such materials However, they are facing such a challenge that their developed material is deteriorated by the water absorption owing to the polar functional groups such as hydroxyl group. As a solution to overcome this challenge, the client is interested in the functionalization with unsaturated groups.

The client has decided to work together with external partners in order to accelerate the development and production of the low-dielectric constant material.

Items to be submitted

Proposal may include the following items. The response form will be shown by clicking the “Respond” button.

  • Overview and principle of the technology
  • Uniqueness of the technology
  • Development stage (Concept/ verified in lab/ commercialized)
  • Current performance
    • Dielectric properties (relative permittivity and dissipation factor) and the measurement frequency
    • Glass transition point (ºC)
    • Type of the unsaturated group
    • Mass-production capacity at present
  • Conditions for sample test (amount available, fee, preparation time, necessity of NDA)
  • Challenges to be overcome for achieving the requirements and plan to solve them
  • Desired condition of collaboration
  • Past record related to the proposed technology (e.g. research paper, presentation)
  • Organization overview

Please submit your proposal by clicking on "Respond" and completing the submission form

Notes on Response

Proposal shall have clear points and should not include confidential information. Supplemental files may be submitted in addition to the proposal.

Response evaluation

The client will evaluate all responses with the following criteria.

Overall scientific and technical merit
Approach to proof of concept or performance
Economic potential of concept
Realism of the proposed plan (action items, timeline, roles, deliverables, cost estimation)
Potential for proprietary position
Respondents’ capability and related experiences

Anticipated Project Process

After the submission due date, the client will review all submitted proposals. NineSigma will send the review results to each proposer 6-8 weeks after the due date. The client possibly asks clarifying questions before selecting the most suitable candidates for collaboration. The client will select best candidates through evaluations. During the selection process, the client may execute NDA with selected respondents, seek further information disclosure, and discuss specific development targets or potential opportunities.

The client will execute necessary agreements with the selected respondents and move to the advanced development phase. Specifics of any collaboration will be determined through consultation with the concerned parties.
