RFP Title

Partner for Designing and Making Prototype of Compact, Lightweight Paraglider
RFP Description

NineSigma, representing a major manufacturer, seeks partners for designing and making prototypes of a paraglider which can carry an object weighing 10 to 25 kg with the wing area of about 12m2.

Key Success Criteria

Requirements of the ultimately sought paraglider

  • A lightweight paraglider that meets the following requirements: 300 g or less
    • Takeoff weight: 10–25 kg
    • Wing area: Approximately 12 m2
  • The paraglider should be able to open within 1 second from the packing bag or sack into which the wing is folded.
  • The paraglider should be able to slow down to 2 m/s or less from the gliding speed of approximately 4 m/s, by automatically pulling on the brake lines.
    • This slow-down mechanism need not be included in the aforementioned glider weight of 300 g.
  • It is preferable that the risers are short and glide ratio is small, keeping the stability of the paraglider.

Requirements of the respondent

  • The respondent should have and be able to demonstrate experiences and achievements related to development of the sought technology.
  • The respondent should be able to design and make prototypes of the paraglider the client seeks.
Preferred Collaboration Types
Items to be Submitted

Anticipated Project Process

1.Submission of proposals:

Respondents should submit proposals within the designated period, using the attached Response Template.

2.Selection and evaluation of proposals:

The client will first review the submitted proposals and possibly ask additional questions before selecting the most suitable candidates for collaboration. The client will then select the potential candidates for designing and developing prototypes of the paraglider.

3.Request for making paid prototypes and evaluation

The client will determine the best candidate(s) through evaluation of the prototypes designed and made by the potential candidates.

Handling of patents and intellectual property rights of a structure of the paraglider to be used will be determined in discussion.

Notes on Response

Proposal shall have clear points and should not include confidential information. Supplemental files may be submitted in addition to the proposal.

Response Evaluation

The client will evaluate all responses with the following criteria.

  • Overall scientific and technical merit
  • Approach to proof of concept or performance
  • Economic potential of concept
  • Realism of the proposed plan (action items, timeline, roles, deliverables, cost estimation)
  • Potential for proprietary position
  • Respondents’ capability and related experience
