Solvay and Axel‘One have developed a scale up platform for polymers (AdChem4) and they are offering access to everyone in the polymer research/development ecosystem who want to push their promising developments towards prototyping and pilot scale.

Background

Solvay is an international science company whose activities lies in materials, chemicals and solutions. Solvay brings advancements in planes, cars, batteries, smart and medical devices, water, and air treatment, to solve critical industrial, social and environmental challenges. Axel’One is the French collaborative innovation platform in the Chemistry and Environment sector created in 2011 and dedicated to smart processes and innovative materials. Together with the ecosystem of the cluster Polymeris, Solvay Group and the Axel`One open innovation platform aim to promote innovation and sustainability in the plastics and polymer industry.

 

About AddChem4

Solvay and Axel’One have established a state-of-art technology platform `AddChem4` (Advanced Chemistry Pilot Plant) with wide range of equipment, trained a team of operators and experts (Solvay), and obtained competences to rapidly scale-up newly developed sustainable polymers. Since the tools have been developed with the financial support of the local government, the developed ‘scale-up’ tools are accessible for external organizations. The services and tools that Solvay and Axel’One are offering can assist organizations with the following:

  • Polycondensation polymer synthesis
  • Polymer-based materials processing & shaping
  • Polymer characterization
  • Material characterization

AdChem4 platform makes it possible to strengthen the chemical-materials sector by offering it the possibility of removing the obstacles to scaling up more easily and accelerating productive investment.

Who should reply?

Organizations who want to engage with long-term partners to accelerate the industrialization and reduce time-to-market of their sustainable polymers in an innovative ecosystem.

As a summary

With this project Solvay and Axel’One are seeking organizations who want to scale up their lab-scale polymer synthesis processes by means of open innovation offering on Solvay`s polymerization pilot plant. In addition, Axel’One can offer material processing and characterization support too.
NineSigma is inviting organizations who want to scale up efficiently with the support of an experienced team while avoiding the need for high investment in equipment that are required to scale up.

 

Key success Criteria

The organizations of interest should preferably:

  • Have developed novel polymers at lab-scale
  • Have a need to upscale these polymer synthesis and transformation processes
  • Have developed a procedure that requires high temperatures and pressures
  • Have a need to bring their polymer innovation to the market in a fast manner
  • Require the support of an experienced team in the polymer field
  • Require a long-term partner for their innovation/project(s)
Possible Approaches

The chemistries of interest are:

  • Polycondensations (polyesters, polyamides, etc..)
  • Biobased polymer synthesis
  • Polymer solubilization and processing
