Needs Title

Soy-PK Resin

Description

OSC seeks organizations interested in using soy-PK, a soy-based resin, in commercial applications such as adhesives, coatings, plastics, and elastomers.

Background

Soy-PK (CAS# 1973457-12-3) is a proprietary soy-based resin developed to replace Bisphenol-A (BPA) based resins. Soy-PK is reactive with many cross linkers (amino resin, polymeric isocyanates and acrylates) and capable of forming coatings that match the performance of BPA based coatings.

Foam obtained using Soy-PK resin

Features and Benefits

  • Bio based resin derived from soybean oil with significantly improved properties compared to alkyds and conventional oleoresins
  • Enhanced chemical and corrosion resistance compared to traditional bio-based resins
  • Forms more stable bonds during crosslinking as opposed to less stable esters or urethane linkages
  • Excellent pot life
  • Easy to formulate with traditional coating solvents
  • Enhanced cure kinetics over traditional bio-based resins
  • Drop in replacement for BPA and phenolics in many coating applications
  • No detectable level of estrogenic activity and anti-estrogenic activity in BG1Luc assay
  • Versatile resin for making coatings, adhesives, sealants, elastomers, and foams

Key success Criteria

Opportunity should preferably have:

  • A clear path for product development
  • Acceptable prospect for market demand (or at least growth potential)
  • High likelihood to be manufacturable
Possible Approaches

Include, but are not limited to:  adhesives, coatings, sealants, plastics, foams, and elastomers
