The State of Ohio is committed to expanding Ohio’s technological strengths and promoting commercialization that will ultimately lead to economic prosperity throughout the state.  Recognizing the rising prominence of open innovation, the Ohio Third Frontier launched the Open Innovation Incentive (OII) Program in 2012 with the goal of incentivizing and assisting select Ohio companies in externally sourcing their innovation needs to overcome obstacles at a 50% cost share.

As a pioneer in the field of open innovation, NineSigma was selected as an Open Innovation Intermediary to work with the participating companies to assist in project development and execution.  Our outreach into Ohio’s Middle Market has uncovered a large portfolio of innovation needs, and NineSigma’s clients are achieving success through the Technology Search (RFP) process.  Our proprietary needs articulation process and methodology for identifying solutions across industries and technical disciplines is un-matched in the marketplace today.  Below are a few representative statements from our OII Program clients:

“The world is a big place and no one company has connections to the entire world.  However, NineSigma and the open innovation process provide an excellent structure for casting an opportunity or problem more effectively into that world-wide marketplace.”

– Paul Bizzarri, Vice President of Innovation, TimberTech

“The wealth of information that came off of the search was almost shocking.  I don’t know any other vehicle I could have used to reach out and find a tenth of the information that has come back on these two searches.”

– Bill Schalitz, Vice President of R&D, Spartan Chemical
