A human-centered, systematic, iterative, prototype-driven approach to drive breakthrough innovation and growth.

 

What is Open Innovation?
The use of external and internal ideas to accelerate internal innovation and enhance market expansion and penetration.

 

Open Innovation + Design Thinking = Open Design Thinking™

Typically Open Innovation and Design Thinking are treated as two distinct paths to accelerating innovation and growth. Workshop attendees will learn how they can integrate these two strategies to create a powerful system for rapid, effective and repeatable breakthrough innovation.

 

Workshop Attendees Will:

1. Learn the fundamental principles that drive success in design thinking and open innovation

2. Discover the power behind the Open Design Thinking concept and methodology

3. Work through a small group exercise: create a design brief and open innovation network map

PRESENTATION: INNOVATION: THE KEY TO LOCKHEED MARTIN’S FIRST 100 YEARS OF SUCCESS

This presentation will trace Lockheed Martin’s lineage and innovation-based successes from the early days of the Loughead (Lockheed) and Wright brothers and Glenn Martin to tomorrow’s compact fusion and hybrid airship development at the company’s famed Skunk Works®. It will show contrasting degrees of innovation in different aircraft being manufactured on adjacent production lines in the same facility, including the C-130J Super Hercules airlifter being built on the world’s oldest, continuously active military aircraft production line and America’s first 5th Generation stealth fighter, the F-22 Raptor. It will discuss how Lockheed Martin’s focus on innovation has kept its products and systems relevant for more than 100 years, as well as its movement toward open innovation techniques and partnerships to ensure future success.
