Did you know that of the 4.5 billion who have poor vision, over 2.5 billion of them will live with uncorrected vision because of their lack of access to basic vision care? These people continue to live with the social and economic consequences of their poor vision because they, simply, have no means for solutions.
Essilor believes that everyone deserves to have access to healthy vision. This has been Essilor’s business for almost 170 years. However, like every global issue today, it's not just their business, it's everyone's business; for everyone to see well, we need to see change.
The purpose of the Essilor See Change Challenge is to find innovative solutions for improving the lives of 2.5 billion people by providing better access to vision care. Up to five winners of the first phase of the challenge will each earn 25,000 € in cash, and will have the opportunity to enter the second phase, where there will be an additional amount of 100,000 € in cash for up to two final winners. Also, Essilor will potentially support the final winners with development contracts to help them build and scale up their solutions.
To learn more about all of the challenge details, tune in to our 1-hour webinar on September 19, 2016 at 9:00 am EDT. The best part: a majority of the webinar is dedicated to a LIVE Q&A where all of your personal questions about this challenge will be answered directly by NineSigma and Essilor. The purpose of every solution should be to speed up the delivery of primary vision care by enabling more people to be easily trained to become primary eye care workers.
"Impaired vision is one of the most common disabilities in the world with profound implications for the individual as well as society, especially in emerging regions," said Dr. Andy Zynga, CEO of NineSigma. "We are very pleased to be working with Essilor to find scalable solutions that will facilitate access to basic vision care by empowering primary eye care workers to improve the vision of great numbers of people, and ultimately enhance their lives."
