Situation: The materials supplier was looking to re-launch an open
innovation initiative after a failed approach with another innovation intermediary.
The company wanted to quickly and efficiently launch a program that would get results,
and therefore engaged NineSigma. Together they launched 7 projects in a short period
of time and began the RapidOISM process of defining needs and preparing
for the evaluation of external solutions and potential partners.
Response: NineSigma's innovation intelligence helped the client
organize effective cross-disciplinary project teams to start and then led those
teams through a series of training sessions. It was critical for the teams to work
together to adapt the open innovation program to the client’s existing systems and
processes including integration with their stage-gate process. Once the training
was complete, the client team was well-prepared and ready to review the proposals
when they came in. The client team ranked the solutions and was able to quickly
move forward with the assessment and acquisition process.
Impact: Working with NineSigma, the client team efficiently moved
forward with 4 out of 7 projects once the RFP was complete. They are currently in
negotiations with solution providers on those 4 projects. By engaging in proper
training, they are now able to better assess external solutions and quickly move
through the acquisition process to capitalize on the new capabilities.
