Client: Global Dairy Products Manufacturer

Situation: The client launched two open innovation projects core to their business. One was a search for solutions that would prohibit lactose crystallization in a cheese product. The other open innovation project involved phosphate chemistry and crystallization. Each project received a number of proposals, and the client team selected the most promising solution from each project: one from a U.S. university, and the other from an Australian research agency that represents a network of universities. The client was anxious to move forward with the project but lacked experience in doing deals. The team was unprepared for the negotiations and called in NineSigma's OI+ Team.

Response: NineSigma interviewed the client and providers and established expectations and an outline of how the groups would work together. NineSigma helped create a Statement of Work, outlined deliverables, identified IP expectations and more.

Impact: With common expectations created, the client was able to successfully contract with both the U.S. university and Australian research agency.
